"frame flexes, seat slides around, and it has some bad qualities as well." 2009-11-17
By stefan grunspan (paradise)
I should start off by saying my son likes this seat more than his other two potties. I think this is because it gives him some amount of autonomy about going to the potty. Some amount.

This product has two parts: the ladder/step stool and the seat. I'll address each part separately. You place the seat on the toilet bowl and lean the ladder up against the bowl. There's no attachment or any means to secure the seat to the bowl or the ladder to anything.

The ladder is very light weight. So light in fact my two year old can almost manage to put this on the toilet himself. Unfortunately, this light weight is responsible for the very flexible/flimsy nature of the ladder. I can't let him climb it without either holding it or putting my foot on one of the legs so that it doesn't fall over. So much for autonomy. I suppose older children would have an easier time handling a ladder that shifts and flexes under their weight but it is in no case close to ideal.

The seat, I as I mentioned above has no means of attachment to the toilet. What it does have are four pegs, sticking out from the bottom of the seat. When you place the seat on the toilet bowl, the four pegs stick down, inside the bowl, and in theory prevent the seat from sliding off the bowl. Depending on the shape/size of your bowl the seat can be anywhere from a snug fit and doesn't slide around too much to all the way to seat can slide so far to one side that it may actually fall in. Unfortunately, even if the pegs snugly fit inside your bowl the seat isn't secure. If a child leans forward or backwards, like when they are getting on or off the seat, the seat will tilt up enough that the pegs will no longer be in the bowl and the seat will slide into or off the bowl.

I expected a lot more based on the other positive reviews but I just didn't find this to be the case.

 "Great Little Seat" 2009-10-02

The built in step allows my grandson to get on and off by himself. Placing his feet on the step and holding the handles makes him feel more secure than the seat only model. This is the best potty seat I've found.

 "IT WORKS!" 2009-09-14
By M. Pearson (La Porte, TX United States)
We gave up on the regular kind of potty chair that sits on the floor and plays pretty music and in no way resembles the real toilet that we grown-ups use. Now that one is used as a step-stool for washing hands AFTER going potty on the Mommy's Helper Step Up. Our 2-year old is even getting good at unfolding and putting the seat on the toilet. At first, I was a bit worried about her getting her feet in the correct position while climbing up because the potty seat can be tippy if she puts all her weight on one side, but she has adjusted well to this problem. Since her feet do not yet reach the blue step while sitting on the potty, the ladder part tends to flip up when she is trying to get up and down too. I think both these problems are because she is a bit tiny for her age, so I'm not sure I can actually blame the product. I do wish it had TWO (2) steps instead of just the one, but there's probably a good reason why it does not (I'm not an engineer). Regardless, it is the only thing that inspired her to really "go" potty instead of standing in the bowl of the cute pink princess one just to make the music play. Since she can reach the toilet paper now, I'm trying to teach her to only use a few squares of toilet paper instead of unrolling half the roll!

 "Not fabulous" 2009-08-29
By R. Marrin
My 21 month old is so excited to use the potty, I feel that this seat is just dangerous. On her second attempt to use it alone, she slid down and almost hit the floor head first. The legs are not really that sturdy (at least not against a tile floor) and it does not at all fit on our elongated seat -- it actually slides around on it, which is even more irritating. I've already taken it down b/c the whole point is to have her go independently and I can't allow it if I'm nervous she's going to hurt herself. Ugh...on to the next...

 "A product with potential." 2009-08-04
By Kellie Pease (Derby, CT)
I got this potty seat and put it together in a few minutes. I brought it in the bathroom to let my son try it, but it didn't seem to sit on the seat well, and the step wasn't feeling secure. I looked at the box and realized that this is meant to sit on the toilet BOWL not the SEAT. I kind of wasn't crazy about that but when I tried it, it fit pretty well.

I let my son climb up when I had it secure. I can't say it was wobbly, but I wouldn't say it was rock solid either. I like the fact that it has handles as my son was holding onto the toilet before. It seems pretty comfortable to him. We had to trouble with pee coming out the front, but we didn't have in issue with him like with my first son, who needed the deflector. The seat does its job, I just wasn't impressed.

Pros: Step up

Fairly secure

Comfortable

Cons: No deflector (an issue for some boys)

Not super-sturdy

Seat covering doesn't seem like it will last long

The last issue we had, not with the product but with our own lack of forethought was this: When my son pulls his pants down to go to the bathroom, he cannot climb the step. He needs to take them off. (The step does not feel wide enough or sturdy enough for him to step up. turn around, then pull down.) So, instead of making it easier by giving him more independence, I either still have to pick him up to the seat or help him redress himself when he is done.

I feel that this is a decent product, giving the child a hand-hold and foot rest so that they feel comfortable when going to the bathroom. As a tool for independence, that would depend entirely on the child. For us, it seems a step stool and a simple seat would be better as the step stool can then be used for hand-washing.
