The Beco Butterfly Baby Carrier combines great ergonomics, excellent weight distribution and stylish design. Every piece is handmade from top quality designer fabric and heavy duty webbing and buckles, and can be used with children from newborns to toddlers, in both front and back carries. The innovative internal sling enables you to securely buckle your baby into the carrier, then handle Baby + Carrier as a single unit. You can put your baby on your back very easily, just like putting on a backpack! The Beco Butterflys removable infant insert for newborns allows your little baby under 15 pounds to ride higher in the carrier in an ergonomically comfortable position. When your baby outgrows the need for the newborn insert, you simply place her into the main Y shaped internal sling attached to the carrier's shoulder straps, which improves the distribution of the baby's weight and enables parents to pass baby from one wearer to another without taking the baby out of the carrier. The inside panel acts as a safety harness and prevents baby from slipping down or falling out of the carrier. 1) Child can be worn on front or back and easily shifted from one to the other. 2) Tall, tapered carrier body provides lots of upper body support for your baby or toddler, holds baby close to your body for greater comfort. 3) A Sternum (chest) strap is connected to the shoulder straps and slides along their length. 4) Padded waistband is firm and supportive while maintaining a slim profile. 5) High quality designer fabrics are smooth, stylish, and comfortable against the skin. 6) Padded leg holes prevent chafing of little thighs. 7) User waist range fits 25 to 50 inches (63 to127cm). 8) User height range fits from 4 foot 9 to 6 foot 2. (144cm to 188cm).

""Baby Bargains" readers BEWARE - this is NOT a forward facing front carrier!" 2010-01-12
By J. Lindamood
I gave this product 3 stars because it seems like a nice enough product, but I don't see what distinguishes it from the less expensive Ergo Carrier, except fashion. I bought it because I made the mistake of believing the book "Baby Bargains" when it specifically said that what distinguishes it from the Ergo Carrier is the fact that it can be used in the forward facing position. However, this is not true! And I foolishly didn't do my homework. I am not impressed enough by fashion to spend a few dozen extra bucks on the Beco Baby Carrier.

"Not as comfortable for infants over 15lbs" 2010-01-04
By BaltimoreMom (Baltimore, MD)
I bought a beautiful Becco hoping that it would replace my bulkier Ergo for the summer months. In addition, the infant insert seemed intriguing to me. Unfortunately, I didn't find the Becco to be as comfortable as my Ergo---which was sad because it really is beautiful. I found that once your infant becomes a little larger, the infant insert actually causes more strain on your shoulders. The extra panel limits how low you can rest the waist band on your hips. I'm only 5 ft 2 in, and found to make the shoulder straps comfy, I had to put the waist band slightly below my belly button instead of on my hips, so baby's weight was not on my hips as I prefer. Plus, I found that trying to mount baby on my back already in the carrier/insert and swinging her on my back was really unstable and unsafe. It's actually much more secure to put baby on your back and flip the carrier over her and not vice versa...imagine swinging a 25lb squirmy backpack on your back while trying to keep it totally upright...once you get one arm through and baby is hanging, it's really hard to get the other strap on! One other alternative to the Ergo is the Boba carrier. I don't have it, but is lighter weight and has a higher back than the Ergo...the two main features that are relative negatives of the Ergo. For now, I'm sticking with my tried and true Ergo...still using daily.

 "Extremely comfortable!" 2009-12-15
By L.A. Mama
I bought a Beco Butterfly 2 after my son outgrew the Bjorn.

First off, I just have to say that the Bjorn killed my back and shoulders. From what I've researched, it's also terrible for baby's spine and joints.

The Beco, however, is so much better for the wearer and baby. For wearer, it places weight on your hips, rather than your back and shoulders. For baby, it supports the baby in a natural sitting position.

I have been using the Beco for 1-2 months now for my now 23-pound son. I love it. We use it when we run errands or do chores around the house. As long as I adjust the straps properly, I don't feel discomfort in my back or shoulders. My son loves riding in the back carry around the house. He kicks his feet in excitement every time.

I love that I can use the Beco for front or back carry. The back carry took some practice, but I can get my son on my back by myself.

My husband also likes using the Beco. He finds it to be comfortable and easy to use.

The instructional DVD that comes with the Beco is quite helpful. If you purchase this product, you should watch it for info on how to use the Beco safely.

The Beco is a little pricey, but the comfort and ease of use make it worth the price! Highly recommend!

"Beautiful Beco Butterfly Baby Carrier" 2009-11-27

These are a cut above the rest. Easy to use, and great to look at, these Becco baby carriers are my 1st choice. As a 1st time mom, and long time subway traveler (I live in NYC) I needed something strong and dependable. This is it. Pricey but worth it. Doesn't dangle the child by the legs like Baby Bjorn, but supports the whole body.

Or, Where Were These 31 Years Ago...

After looking at the pro's and con's of the numerous baby carriers out there, I decided on purchasing a Beco Butterfly II for my daughter's first baby. I will admit there was an ulterior motive - my upper body strength isn't that great and I was going to help out with the newborn. I wanted to be able to carry the baby but wanted to have my arms and hands free since I like to multitask. We chose the Beco Butterfly II for many reasons.

The Beco was highly recommended by a number of maternity shops; these shops carried several brands, so it wasn't just to make the sale of a Beco. The similarity to a good backpack was egnomically important since two of the grandparents have back problems; the Beco distributed weight evenly and provided lower back support. The adjustability of the carrier was paramount since there are six users who range from 5'1" in height to 5' 10" and whose weights range from 110 to over 200 pounds. All of the four grandparents and both parents have been able to use the Beco with no problems. Further, the Beco is comfortable even when you are toting a 10 pound two week old baby for extended periods of time. I have worn the Beco when sitting and have had no problems typing while wearing it.

My grandson was having some trouble with spitting up after he ate. The doctor suggested keeping him upright for 30 minutes after feeding. We found this was very useful for that purpose; as an additional benefit, we found my grandson remained much more calm when carried in the Beco.

I would definitely recommend watching the DVD before using the Beco. It answered the questions we had about using the Beco which we did not feel were clearly addressed in the pamphlet that came with the carrier. Yes, this item is a bit pricey, but it is right in line with the better baby carriers out there.

If you do not like the patterns shown on Amazon, check the Beco web site. They show all the current options and provide information as to where specific patterns can be purchased.
