"A huge pain in the,,," 2010-01-17
By AM123 (toronto)
This stroller was lent to me by a family member who's children have outgrown it so luckily, I have not had to spend any money to purchase it. If I were to have purchased it however, I would not have paid more than 400 dollars for it at the absolute most. When my first child was born I purchased a full sized stroller (Peg Perego Uno), so I feel like I had another stroller to compare the Phil&Ted's general functionality with.

While the stacked seats are a wonderful concept, this stroller has some serious flaws that could be greatly improved.

First, I must say that while I fully expect a double stroller to be heavy, this is is something else entirely. The weight combined with the fact that the stroller folds into an incredibly awkward shape makes it extraordinarily difficult to lift and load/unload into any vehichle. Additionally, as other reviewers have already mentioned, this stroller is not intuitive. Closing it up and looking for the grommets to snap it shut is rediculous. I didn't even know that this could be done until I searched the users manual for this very reason. Fastening the stroller shut shouldn't be that difficult quite honestly.

Secondly, I must say that when using the stroller in the infant+toddler mode (seat attached on top, stroller seat reclined all the way), it is incredibly difficult/almost impossible to get the baby in and out. A simple zipper would have made the world of difference as it would have allowed for a larger openening and therefore made it easier to slide or manoeuvre the baby in and out of the bassinett-like compartment. Right now, this mode is next to useless as you cannot tend to the infant should he or she start to cry. Taking the toddler out of the top seat is not an option either as it leaves you have no hands free to tend to your infant.

Finally, I have to mention that like some other reviewers, I too found the stroller to be difficult to steer. You need to have a firm grasp with both hands. (I suppose this may have something to do with the amount of weight that it's carrying)

All in all this stroller does offer the many benefits of not having to push around a traditional tandem stroller. Unfortunately however, the design leaves a lot to be desired and as it currently stands, I dread using it for the reasons I mentioned above. It simply isn't comfortable or the least bit enjoyable.

"We love our Phil and Ted Double." 2009-08-17
By Joel Augustine (Georgia)
We purchased our Phil and Ted double kit in Graffiti Red from another website, but we love it all the same.

We use it with our almost 5 y.o. and 2 y.o. We are always going for long walks either around the mall or at the zoo so we needed something that both children could take a break in. This works perfectly. When only one child is using the stroller we use the back seat to hold our bags. It's a smooth ride, folds easily and the seats are big enough for both kids.

It does have its cons, though they really aren't that bad to us. You can't recline the top seat if there is a kid in the back, if the kid in the front gets out you have to hold the stroller steady so it won't tip or just move the back kid to the front. There is no cupholders (though you can buy them), the bar for the back seat is a bit low. WhenI try to recline the back seat, my son's head is right line with the bar. I love that there is a strap for the kids to hold on to when they are walking. I love the 5 pt. I love it's not very wide. I love I can make it a single or a double. I love I can lock the wheel or let it turn. The basket is enough space for my son to put his feet and for me to put my pocket book down there.

When I first saw these strollers I thought the bottom seat was a bad idea, the kid has no view, but my son really loves it down there.

We bought this stroller to use at Disney and around Orlando when we go on vacation this fall. We haven't gone yet, but the stroller has been well worth the money to us and has been used so much. We always get compliments on what a great stroller it is. I am always letting other parents push it with the kids in it since it's so smooth and they are curious.

Even with it's few cons, we are extremely happy with this stroller.

 "So far so good..." 2009-06-12
By Daniel Pearson (Northern CA)
We are expecting our first child...but we are planning on having two close together. So we decided to invest in one stroller that would serve us for both now and the future.

We took everything out of the box and assembly went quick and easy. There were a few weird things...but if we had read the directions to start off we would have gotten it on the first try. But other than that, we had everything set up ready to go in about 15 mins. As long as you are semi-intelligent putting this together should be no problem.

The turning capability of this stroller is great. We've pushed it around in the house and it maneuvers very well around our small house, which is good news for when we will be out in stores, etc.

It looks very cool, that's for sure. :)

When we ordered it we had found a special deal where we got a free kit to turn the double seat into a bouncer. So in the meantime with just one little one, we have a nice bouncer. This assembly was also very easy.

Other than that, we can't comment much on the use of the items. Our baby is yet to arrive. We will update this review when we have put it to some good use.

Very good well built stroller. Have had it for 18 months, however beware when buying this stroller. Replacement parts are almost impossible to get and buying another 400 dollar stroller is not a good option. My front wheel broke and I have been unable to reach anyone at the numbers provided on the website. There also does not seem to be any online alternative to order new parts.

 "DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!" 2009-04-07
By Jeni (TX)
I purchased this stroller when I was pregnant with my second child. I thought this would be perfect...I could put my toddler in the front and the new baby in the back. Once the baby was born and I did this, she would cry non stop and made stroller trips horrible. Also, when my son wasn't in the stroller, there was no weight to weigh it down causing it to jump and vibrate all around. The handle bar would move around all the time....the list goes on and on.

I had previously owned a single BOB stroller and knew how incredible they are so I put the Phil and Ted on Craig's List. It took forever for me to sell it, but once I did I quickly purchased the Double BOB. It is the best stroller in the world and well worth the money. Don't make the same mistake I did....buy the BOB!!!!!!!!!!

 "Well-Designed, Smooth Riding Stroller" 2010-02-17
By J. Hawk (San Francisco, CA)
We got this before our daughter was born, based on research and reviews. She's now 8 months old, and she, her daddy and I all love it still.

We live in a semi-urban, neighborhoody area (Cambridge, MA). The sidewalks are often in bad shape due to the extreme winter weather. For that matter, in the winter, they are often partially covered with snow and muck despite the fact they get shoveled. This is a non-issue for this stroller. The ride is unbelievably smooth. The push is effortless. It turns "on a dime." I really can't emphasize enough how fabulously smooth and easy to push it is. I've been trying out a lot of Maclaren-Quest-type luxe travel strollers lately, and I'm invariably disappointed in the push/ride because I'm so spoiled by this Mountain Buggy.

The handlebar adjusts, which is a necessity if you ask me. I've never hit my foot on the back (I'm 5'7), nor has my 6-foot-tall husband. This is very important to me. I tried some other strollers where this happened, and it's unacceptably annoying. I can't believe anyone would put up with that, especially if they do a lot of walking with the stroller. Not an issue with the Urban Single.

It has a huge storage basket. I take it down about half a mile to the grocery store, load it down with groceries, then push it back uphill on the bumpy sidewalks, and it's easier than pushing our souped-up umbrella stroller (a Britax Blink) with nothing in it but the baby. In addition to the storage basket, there are some handy pockets on the back of the basket, one with a zipper. I use these all the time.

We've also taken our beloved Mountain Buggy hiking on fire roads and it's no problem. You can lock the front wheel in place for this or for jogging. Fabulous.

Yes, there are a few drawbacks, but these were easy compromises for me:

No cup holder. I don't want a cup holder, because I much prefer the Sunshine Kids attachable one. It has loads of room for wallet, phone, kleenex, etc, a little zipper pocket inside, and TWO cup holders. No problem.

Sunshade could be bigger. This one does sort of bother me. If this stroller had a large sunshade you could ratchet down in front of baby when the sun is low on the horizon, it would approach complete perfection.

Except that, the last thing is that it is quite large. You feel a little obtrusive taking it into restaurants, but I do it anyway and try to stay out of the way and be courteous. In a bigger city, this stroller would probably be simply too large for everyday use. From the research I've done, it seems you can't get a narrow profile stroller that has all the things this Urban Single (same as Urban Jungle, for the record, according to the company) has. Although, I'm intrigued with the new Mountain Buggy "Swift." It looks like simply a mini-Urban Jungle!

In short, I'm a huge fan of the Urban Single. I feel like the company really thought about what parents need and what is troublesome for them in a stroller. If its fabulous features are the ones that are important to you, and its few drawbacks are things you can compromise on or don't care about, you will be very, very happy with this stroller.

"Time tested, and loving it" 2009-09-02
By Li Lily Hsu (Germany)
We love our Mountain Buggy Single Stroller too. We are new parents and my sister recommended it to us. If I had to list my favorite characteristics, they would be (1) very versatile handling, even with a wagon full with baby and groceries, you can manouver tight corners with one hand (2) easy adjustments, the seat is reclineable and a comfortable place to sleep, even for our picky little sleeper, the adjustable handle bar is not to be underappreciated, and the storm cover is easy to put on and take off (3) very compact, we had a very small call before, and with one manouver the wagon collapses into a manageable form, the wheels are easily removable and allowed the buggy to fit even into our tiny car (4) lots of cargo space, (5) air tires, allows us to drive on cobbles stone as well as bumpy hiking trails. The only minor drawback is not the buggy itself, rather the carrycot. It became too small for our baby too soon, at 12-14 weeks, it became too narrow for him. I've seen carrycots for other wagons, that allow the infant to lay on his tummy and look forward. It would be nice if Mountain Buggy developed a carrycot with an adjustable front or back wall. All in all though, we are very content with our Mountain buggy. My husband tends to be rough with tools and equipment, but the mountain buggy still holds up well, despite getting thrown around sometims. :-)

"One of the best buy for your money!" 2009-08-04
By K. Rogers (The O.C., CA)
I bought my mountain buggy urban (single) back in 2006 for my first child after extensive research online and through ready baby bargains book. What I love about this stroller is how easy it is to handle. I can push and manuver tight areas one handed. My 3 year old son was able to push the stroller himself at 2 years of age thanks to the adjustable handle bar. At 14 pounds, it still easy to pick up and put into the car. It compacts down with just one release at the front of the stroller (which requires you to use both your index fingers). With the rubber tires and shocks, my children never woke up while they were in it, even when I went off the paved road onto dirt or grass. I also purchased the peg perego car seat adapter which is so easy to use. My 12 week old daughter now mainly uses the stroller, but when my son wants in, I just remove the adapter quickly and he climbs in! On of the best features is that you can lock the front wheel and make it into a jogging stroller. This is the only stroller I have bought and have gotten the most use out of it. You'll never need to buy mutiple strollers, just this one. It's a great price at around $400 considering how many strollers are also now in the same price range.

 "Excellent stroller!" 2010-01-05

We bought this and the back seat attachment to push are two kids. This stroller is awesome and met my needs, which were,

1) needed a stroller that could carry 2 kids

2) small enough to manuever through tight areas (retail stores, busy malls, etc)

3) folds to a small size

4) inflatable tires

cons

1) would have liked the cup holder to come with it

"Do NOT buy this item" 2009-12-21
By a
I purchased the e3 buggy in 2006. I cannot tell you how unhappy I am with the quality and the level of customer service I have received.

The 2 rear tires were slowly losing air after one year. I do not use this stroller in the winter, only in the summer and when I went to use it this past spring, the tires were flat. I noticed that the rims were slightly warped, and asked customer service if these could be replaced. Yes, for $42 apiece!! I have followed the directions to use a handpump and the rims are still warped. I am astounded that an expensive stroller would have this level of defect, and that phil & ted's does not offer wheel replacement.

I should have paid attention to other site reviews which mentioned issues with the wheelsand customer service.

Other complaints:

-Lack of tray for the child to use for snacks.

-The height of the bar in front of the child makes for difficult exit

-The lack of storage when there is a child in the rear attached seat. This is a HUGE inconvenience.

-The lack of cupholder/storage for the parent.

-bulky to fold and load in vehicle

So, all told, I have spent over $500 for this stroller and I am far from happy. One positive? It looks cool

 "the perfect travel bag!!!!" 2010-01-06
By mother of baby and toddler (boston, ma)
after buying a pretty expensive stroller i wanted a travel bag that was sturdy and easy to use...the phil and ted buggy bag is perfect for my P&T sport buggy! the material is very thick and sturdy so that explains the price tag and it's so easy to use. it only took about 10 minutes of trial and error to figure it out. it's so simple!

1) put handle bar at 90 degree angle to pole of seat frame

2) fold and lock stroller

3) lay down on floor with seat side down and pop off all tires

4) lay bag sticker side down and zip off cover in its entirety

5) slide buggy into bag with seat side down and then to get that snug fit you can put bag and buggy upright and shake it down (you have option to tuck in back tire plastic covers and store back tires or leave plastic frames out so you can re-attach back tires)

6) lay it back on floor (sticker side down), throw in the front tire (or all tires) and re-attach the cover/zipper and zip all the way around and attach velcro (the stroller and all 3 tires fit perfect and it's not so tight that you feel the zipper is going to break...if that is the case it's not in properly)

so easy! great for travel! a must buy if you plan on airplane travel with your precious buggy!

 "Very tight fit." 2009-08-18
By Angelina Kuo (Davis)
In theory we really like this bag, however; I feel the fit is way too tight. You have to have the stroller handle in a specific position get it in the bag. Also, the fit is so tight it is putting a lot of stress on the zipper. I do not think this bag will hold up long term. Had I tried the bag before ordering I would have not ordered it. I'm fairly disappointed as I generally love all things Phil & Ted.

"TO MAKE IT FIT: TAKE OFF THE CANOPY" 2009-07-05
By Steph (Caribbean)
We have the Sport Buggy and it seemed impossible to fit it in this Travel Bag.

It DOES fit!

I was not at all impressed by the lack of intuition and instructions that come with the buggy and the case, even though I think the buggy itself is fantastic.

To fit our buggy I tried all different configurations, and I thought I would have to take of the (adult) handle bar (we don't use the child bar yet as our baby is still small), and couldn't see how to do that.

So I took off the front wheel (and am about to have another try with it back on) and the CANOPY - and it fit very easily.

So, I think taking off the canopy is the key to fitting the Sport Buggy into this Travel Bag.

Good luck!

Too bad Phil & Ted seem to try so hard at having "cute" instructions - they seem to have forgotten to make them useful.

Hope this helps.

 "great design" 2009-06-23
By elf girl (East Coast)
We recently bought the travel bag and were preparing for the worst after reading so many negative reviews, but discovered the stroller fits perfectly and is not difficult to zip. You only need to remove the front wheel, the child's bumper/handle bar and the second seat. The key is to lay the bag sticker side down, make sure the brake is off, fold the adult handle bar down 90 degrees and lay the stroller so that the seat cushion is facing the ground or inside of bag. Also, you can e-mail Phil & Ted's for a .pdf version of the instructions or search other web sites like [...].

 "Great Bag" 2009-05-07
By french simmetric (Atlanta)
We disagree with the masses in that it is difficult to put the stroller in & zip it up. Ok - maybe they should have included a few diagrams, but once you figure out that the stroller needs to be upside down in the bag, it is easy. We did not have to take off the adult handbar, just rotate it down 90 deg to the frame. Take the front wheel off. Everything else is obvious (where the axle goes, etc). We could get the doubles kit, kid handbar, and the infant car seat adapter all in the bag. It is "snug", but not at all impossible. Good Engineering if you ask us. If it is taking you more than 10 minutes, you probably have the stroller upside down - flip it over. We think it is of spectacular quality & design, consistent with the stroller itself.

"Large enough for the double stroller and so much more" 2009-04-11
By V. Spencer (Oklahoma)
This is a fabulous stroller bag. We use it to pack our strollers as checked luggage when flying. It is large enough to carry the stroller, the infant car seat for when we get to our destination, and blankets etc...It did not hold up during one of our flights it was ripped pretty badly but it looked like it got caught on a machine. However, we bought another one because we liked it so much and this one has lasted several flights now!

I have to give it a four though, because the point of the wheels is to roll it, but it is kind of hard to roll, it wobbles, and doesnt stay centered easily even if it is only the stroller in the bag.

Overall, a great buy!
